POLICE investigating an assault at the weekend have released a man they arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
The incident is believed to have happened at a property in Kitchener Terrace, in Ferryhill, on Friday, September 28, but was not reported to police until Sunday.
A 51-year-old man was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where his condition was initially described as critical.
He is now said to be in a stable condition.
A 31-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent has since been released under investigation.
A spokeswoman for Durham police said enquiries are ongoing and appealed to anyone with any information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 210 of September 30.
