A MAN who was hit by a lorry on the A1 when he got out of his car on Thursday evening is still critical in hospital.
The driver of the Mini Clubman was hit just below the junction 58 interchange at Burtree, near Darlington.
He was initially in the car, which collided with both the nearside and offside crash barrier, in a crash involving only his vehicle.
He then got out of the vehicle and was struck by an HGV also travelling southbound.
The man, who lives locally, received serious injuries and remains in hospital.
