CHILDREN turned their hand to poetry this week to celebrate new road safety measures outside their school.
Pupils at Cockton Hill Infants' School have been celebrating the speed limit being reduced from 30mph to 20mph on the roads surrounding the school.
And the school's 160 pupils had the opportunity earlier this week to work with poet, Bernard Young, to write a poem about road safety.
Headteacher Anne Graham said: "The children have had a really interesting and enjoyable day with Bernard Young, a performance poet and Judith Forster from Durham County Council Road Safety Department. The children have been using their creative writing skills to produce poems which they then performed to the whole school in assembly. Elsie, our lollipop lady was thrilled that one was especially about her. Their creativity, imagination and confidence are wonderful."
