A FESTIVAL celebrating later life is taking place in York.

York’s 50+ Festival, which began this week, will continue until Sunday, October 7 and features a wide array of free and affordable events.

Events are ongoing at venues around the city and include meditation and mindfulness, confidence-building, rowing, creative writing, fishing and French.

There will also be sessions focusing on keeping active, from walking events to yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong to line or circle dancing.

There are also events for people without their life partner who may want to get out and meet people and a performance, No Kidding, on Saturday, October 6, at the Priory Street Centre at 2pm which looks at the challenging of ageing without children or relatives nearby.

On Monday, October 1, International Day of Older People, there will be a family history event at the Family History Research Room at the Raylor Centre on James Street.

Festival programmes are available in community centres and libraries in the York area, or online at; yorkassembly.org.uk/y1/Festival/
