A HOSPITAL is helping families maintain everyday life when a parent is admitted into hospital.
Staff from West Park Hospital in Darlington, part of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, worked alongside public governor, Sarah Talbot-Landon to transform a section of ward into a home away from home for service users and their families.
The hospital, which provides inpatient mental health services for adults and older people, now boasts a self-contained family visiting area with living room, kitchen and private garden, where families can engage in day to day activities together.
Fran Bergin, locality manager said “Parents who are staying in hospital, can sometimes be there for a prolonged period which impacts the whole family.
"Having a place where families and children in particular, feel comfortable to visit and can experience everyday life with their mum or dad is really important in maintaining positive relationships and helps support the person’s recovery.
She added: “We’re really grateful to Sarah."
