CHRISTMAS at a County Durham castle is promising to be bigger than ever this year.

Raby Castle is preparing for appearances by Father Christmas' reindeer, Elvis the Shetland pony and an opportunity for children to enjoy breakfast pancakes cooked to Mrs Claus’ recipe before enjoying stories.

Adults are also invited to an afternoon tea event which will be hosted in the Grand Entrance Hall. There will also be a chance to glimpse some of the castle rooms all decorated for Christmas. This event is suitable for group bookings.

Claire Jones of Raby Castle said: “Fireside Stories with Father Christmas sold out quickly last year so we have added extra dates, including after school and the option to include breakfast or high tea as part of the visit."

“Christmas at Raby Castle will be a magical experience for families with lots of treats for both adults and children plus a range of indoor crafts and activities to entertain excited visitors,” she added.

Throughout December, Christmas trees from the Raby Estate will be on sale along with a selection of handmade wreaths and decorative foliage. A Christmas market will also take place on December 8 and 9.
