AN animal rights organisation took their campaign to new heights to spread awareness of animal cruelty.

Anonymous for the Voiceless (AV) is a worldwide organisation that uses street activism to tackle animal-related issues such as animal testing, meat production and the illegal monkey trade market.

Over the course of 4,010 demonstrations in 729 cities worldwide, they have convinced around 216,000 bystanders to consider lifestyle changes such as veganism.

The AV:Teesside branch usually sets up in the centre of Middlesbrough two Saturdays of each month hoping to chat to shoppers about their campaign.

On Saturday September 8, a group of activists donned their walking boots and made the 320m hike up Roseberry Topping near Great Ayton, North Yorkshire.

There four members spent two hours standing back-to-back in a ‘cube’ formation, used in all demonstrations, while other activists stood by to talk to curious ramblers.

Kathy Barley, a member of AV:Teesside, said: “To do a cube on Roseberry Topping, although a novelty, we hoped we would have some good conversations with members of the public there. We had a few, and 2 runners, pausing briefly at the top and left promising that they would give veganism a go by doing Challenge 22.

“The aim of AV is to engage the public with the reality of what happens to animals in both farms and slaughterhouses to become the meal on the plate. We don't approach people, they approach us, and if they wish to talk then we will explain what they're looking at in the cube and suggest ways in which they can change their lives, become vegan, and thereby reduce the amount of suffering."
