THE Woodland Trust is holding an event to tell people about its plans to create a native woodland on the outskirts of Durham. The organisation wants to plant the trees on land near Brasside Pond, between Brasside and Belmont and wants to get feedback on where things like paths, benches and picnic tables should go. A public event takes place at Belmont Community Centre today, at 1.30pm.

POLICE are appealing for information following a suspected arson attack on cars parked at a farm off South Hetton Road, near Easington Village, shortly before midnight, on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the grounds of the property. No-one was injured. Anyone with information is asked to ring Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 544 of September 11.

SUGGS, the long-term front-man of Madness, gives a musical life-story, backed only by trusty pianist Deano, at Durham’s Gala Theatre, on Thursday October 18, at 7.30pm.

PHOTOGRAPHER Philip Nixon pinpoints good views to capture on camera, on a two-mile walk, on Tuesday. The walk: Secret Durham, Kepier to the Shooting Range, starts at the car park next to the A690 flyover, off Belmont Road, DH1 1HP, at 10am.

There is a £4 charge per participant, who are advised to take their cameras.

THE Durham Constabulary Male Voice Choir is performing at St Helen’s Church, in Kelloe, on Friday, September 21. It starts at 7pm. Tickets are £5, which includes refreshments of cheese and wine, and are available on the door or by calling Robin Millerchip on 0191 3779855. All proceeds go towards the church’s restoration appeal.
