AN investigation is underway following an alleged attack on a dog.
Police in Newton Aycliffe received a report of an individual mistreating a puppy in the town centre at 8pm last night.
Witnesses reported seeing a man kicking a dog near to Aldi, in Greenwell Road, police said.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers have spent today looking at CCTV opportunities and speaking to potential witnesses. "A male person has been interviewed under caution and further enquiries are being made.
"The RSPCA are involved regarding the welfare of the dog.
"We'd like to thank all those who have assisted with our enquiries and reinforce that we will take all reports regarding the mistreatment of animals seriously."
