A 71-YEAR-OLD woman has been injured in what is believed to have been an unprovoked attack.
Police were called to the Acomb area of York after reports an elderly woman had been assaulted outside the Co-op store on Beckfield Lane at 5pm on Tuesday, September 11.
Officers attended and arrested a 22-year-old man from York on suspicion of wounding with intent. He currently remains in police custody.
The 71-year-old local woman was taken to York District Hospital where she received treatment for her injuries, which police say are not as serious as first thought. She remains in hospital and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Officers believe that this was isolated incident and extra patrols are being conducted in the area, to reassure the local community.
