THE official opening of a new mecca for football fans in the North-East is now pencilled in for next month.

Final touches are being added to the collection of supporters’ memorabilia by the group of enthusiasts and volunteers behind The Fans’ Museum, in Sunderland.

They have transformed the main building at the former Monkwearmouth Station Museum, in North Bridge Street, just minutes’ walk from the Stadium of Light.

Complete with many old strips, pennants, artefacts and other memorabilia from Sunderland football history, plus a licensed bar, it is open prior to each first team home game to give fans a sneak preview ahead of the proposed official opening, expected in mid-October.

A former club ‘legend’ is expected to be announced soon as the guest of honour.
