RUNNERS in yesterday's Simplyhealth Great North Run have been thanked for helping emergency services reach and treat someone who collapsed during the race.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Thank you to the public who formed the human chain around the runner who collapsed during the Great North Run. This allowed medical personnel to quick reach the patient and commence CPR."
The runner did regain consciousness.
