A VILLAGE is hosting its annual day in celebration of its most famous former resident.
St Helen’s Church in Kelloe, in County Durham, hosts its Elizabeth Barrett Browning day in celebration of the Victorian poet on Saturday.
The event is being held as part of the national heritage open day scheme and this year will include poetry of the First World War and material inspired by the suffragette movement.
Featuring music, poetry, songs and dance, it takes place at 2pm and will be followed by tea and buns.
Barrett Browning, whose family had links to the suffrage movement, was born at Coxhoe Hall and christened at St Helen’s, where she is celebrated every year.
The church is also holding its patronal service in celebration of St Helen on Sunday, at 11am.
