BRIGHT sunshine and blue skies heralded the return of the Muker Show as visitors from across the Yorkshire Dales - and the world - flocked to enjoy the occasion.

Joint Show Secretary Kathy Scott said that, in its 113th year, the event had seen an above average number of visitors, thanks in no small part to the perfect weather.

The show welcomed visitors from as far afield as New Zealand and enjoyed strong entries across the sheep, produce and handicraft classes.

Sheepdog trials took place in the bottom field, whilst the ever-popular fell run was a hit with spectators.

Ms Scott said it was nice to see people arriving even earlier than usual, adding that an extra 90 chairs that were laid out for visitors were soon snapped up.

And the event boasted three camera crews all filming for various documentaries.

These included a crew following explorer Paul Rose who entered a chocolate cake into a class that he baked in a tent pressure cooker that had been halfway up Mt Everest.
