VINTAGE gliders came from all over the country for a special reunion at the Yorkshire Gliding Club headquarters at Sutton Bank near Thirsk.
The fly in, is an annual event particularly for gliders made locally by Slingsby Sailplanes of nearby Kirkbymoorside. This year there was a record turnout of a particular vintage glider, the Slingsby Swallow which was made by the North Yorkshire company between 1958 to 1968 before a disastrous fire at the factory.
Pilot Paul Bulmer said:”There was a veritable flight of Swallows, four including mine, it’s an amazing little glider, great fun to fly although it doesn’t have the performance of modern gliders. But they helped make a very successful Slingsby week.”
