A CHAMPION paraclimber has received a funding boost to help her train at home.
Joanna Newton, from Guisborough, a left leg amputee who represents Great Britain in the discipline, has been given a £350 grant by law firm Irwin Mitchell, which has pledged to support disability sport.
The 51-year-old is gearing up to represent Great Britain in the Paraclimbing World Championships in Innsbruck in September but needs equipment to help her train at home late at night and early in the morning, as she has a ten-year-old son.
She has enjoyed success in the AL2 category of paraclimbing, coming fourth in the IFSC Paraclimbing Cup which was held in France in July.
Ms Newton, who works full-time as a process technology manager at the Centre for Process Innovation, added: “Paraclimbing is an incredible sport and I am delighted to be able to compete in it. This support from Irwin Mitchell is fantastic and it is great to see such an organisation recognise and promote the importance of disability sport."
