FREYA SUTCLIFFE, Becca Williams and Heather McLinden from Stokesley School, are fundraising for their community project Flo and Glo, a project to end Period Poverty.

Period poverty is the inability to afford basic and essential sanitary wear. This forms part of their National Citizen Service, which is a government funded programme which encourages young people to get involved and have a positive impact on their local community.

Flo and Glo raises funds to provide basic and essential sanitary wear for the local community. It is thought that in the UK 1 in 10 girls between 14-21 years cannot afford essential sanitary wear, therefore they miss essential schooling, and having a normal daily life. So far the girls have raised over £400 in 2 days for this cause.

As a plea to try to end this kind of poverty in the area, the girls want to challenge what they believe is a taboo subject and raise awareness. They intend to place free packs of sanitary products in local schools [Stokelsey, Bedale and Northallerton], GP surgeries, as well as in the Women’s Refuge.
