MOTORISTS have been warned against the anti-social use of vehicles in County Durham.

Durham Special Constabulary issued the warning following the seizure of a vehicle in the Fishburn area.

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for the force said two roads policing officers came across the vehicle on Wednesday night while on patrol.

They said: “The driver did two wheels spins in front of them and, subsequently, his vehicle was seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.

“In basic terms, this police power is aimed at reducing the anti-social use of vehicles and a driver can have two warnings in a 12 month period.

“On your second warning, the vehicle gets seized. This driver had already had one within 12 months.

“It applies to the driver, so even if they change vehicles, the warning is still in place.”

In order to get the vehicle back, the driver has to pay the recovery fee and a fee for every day the vehicle is held there.

They added: “If the vehicle is not collected in seven days, it gets disposed of.”
