PLANS for a new drive-through fast food outlet have been put back on the table.
Angel Developments has put forward a planning application for a McDonalds restaurant at St Andrew’s Park, on the former Kerry Foods site, in Durham, along with a retail development.
A different scheme, also including a drive-through, was approved in 2015 but the current application is a revision of that proposal.
The statement, made on behalf of the company, said: “Demand for new trade counter uses has been limited.
“The subject planning applications therefore provide revised proposals for the remainder of the former Kerry Foods site, to the north of the already constructed units, which take into account the current scale and nature of demand for new commercial premises.”
Around 2,600 sq m of the site has already been developed with a number of units including a Kwik Fit, Pennine Windows and Floors 4 You
The proposed retail development would comprise of 5,398 sq m of floor space, spread over three units between Dragon Lane and McIntyre Way.
Retailers have not yet been found, though it is anticipated they will be bulky goods retailers.
The McDonalds, which would create 65 jobs, would be adjacent to Dragon Lane.
There would also be a car park, which 234 spaces.
