AN exhibition of contemporary works themed around “the end of the world” are on show at a County Durham arts centre.

The bold collection of pieces feature in Artifice, at Greenfield Gallery, in Newton Aycliffe, which opened this month and runs until Wednesday, August 8.

The showcase is a collaboration from four artist friends, Fred Thomas, Amy Morris, Graham Rispin and Dan Walls - the graffiti artist featured in The Northern Echo last month who painted Consett-based aquarium enthusiast Andy Tate’s Nissan Micra, which was transformed into a fish tank.

Mr Walls said: “The gallery space itself has been utilised to the full, making use of the light to display both 2D, 3D and installation.

“The aim of the art is to be more than just aesthetically pleasing but to be more conceptual and invite the viewer to question what they see and to remember it.”

The four artists have produced and displayed a wide variety of work in different media looking at themes such as space, society, nature, death, and technology.

Many pieces are for sale and prints are available on request.

The gallery, at Greenfield Arts, on the Greenfield Community College site, is open from 10am until 9pm from Monday to Friday.
