HOUGHALL Horticultural Society, a group of keen gardeners and plant enthusiasts, is seeking new members.
Established in 1990, the group meets for talks, garden visits and an annual UK garden holiday.
There is a single subscription of £6 per year and admission to talks is £2. Talks are held monthly from October to April at Houghall College, starting at 7pm. There are plants for sale, grown at Houghall College nursery.
The next talk, jointly with the Friends of Durham Botanic Garden, is Gardening on the Airwaves, on Tuesday, October 9, with Marian Foster of BBC Radio Newcastle.
On November 13, Martin and Jill Fish will give a talk entitled “Gardening on the Menu”.
From May to September, the group visits gardens as far afield as Yorkshire, Teesside, Cumbria and Northumberland and earlier this year went to Edinburgh Botanic Garden. In August, a garden party will be hosted by a society member and on September 15 there will be a day trip to Harrogate Autumn Flower Show.
