THE deputy leader of the Green Party will meet with Darlington campaigners to learn more about their protest against the cutting down of swathes of trees to make way for development.
Amelia Womack will visit the town on Monday, July 23 and aims to spend time with members of the #lovedarlotrees campaign and the wider public.
Matthew Snedker, coordinator for Darlington’s Green Party, said: “She is aware of the campaign and interested in issues concerning the trees and green spaces in Darlington.
“We are hoping to discuss with her ways in which the town can be developed but in a more balanced and sensitive way than it is being.
“She is keen to hear from residents who are on the front line, campaigning to stop further felling in historic parklands.”
Ms Womack will be at Blackwell Grange Hotel from 11.30am and at noon, will walk from the hotel to Carmel Road South, where trees were cut down to make way for a housing development.
