TWO prisoners have been taken to hospital following an "altercation" at a County Durham prison this morning.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary confirmed officers attended Deerbolt HMYOI, near Barnard Castle, at about 10am.
One young offender was taken to James Cook Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while another inmate was taken to University Hospital North Durham, also with non-life threatening injuries.
He said: "An investigation has begun into the circumstances of the incident."
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) also confirmed a crew attended and assisted a crew form the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS).
Both prisoners were taken to hospital by road.
