A MAN from County Durham has appeared in court charged with killing a woman in a crash.
Richard Elmore pleaded not guilty at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday to one count of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The 28-year-old, of Collingwood Street, Bishop Auckland, is accused of driving dangerously on the A167 in Newcastle in his Peugeot 207 on February 6.
Demi Burke, 27, of Walker, Newcastle, died following the crash while Colleen Main suffered serious injuries.
The court heard a trial was expected to take place from February 4 next year, with a time estimate of two weeks.
Mr Elmore, who was represented by Adam Birkby, is due to appear next at the same court on September 28 for a further pre-trial hearing.
The Recorder of Newcastle, Judge Paul Sloane QC, released the defendant on bail on the condition that he resides at his given address and does not contact prosecution witnesses.
