A CHARITY walk celebrating its tenth anniversary this year was started by Lady Elsie Robson.
The 16-mile hike was held once again for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, and was from Ovington to Newburn, in Northumberland, and back.
Before this year’s event, the fundraisers had already raised £16,200 for the foundation, which finds more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
Organiser Ann Cowperthwaite, from Ovington, said: “Unfortunately, over the years, we’ve had friends and family who have suffered from the consequences of cancer, so it’s really grown in meaning for us all.”
This year, 40 walkers undertook the challenge, which ended with a social event at Ovington Club on Saturday.
Lady Elsie said: “It’s marvellous that this fundraising event has supported our foundation since our launch ten years ago. They’ve raised a very significant amount of money in that time and we’re grateful to everyone involved.”
