POLICE cordon off street after man seriously injured.
Mount Pleasant, in the Market Place area of Houghton, was cordoned off by officers on Monday.
A Northumbria police spokesman said the police action was a result of an incident on Sunday night
He said: “At around 10.52pm last night, police received a report of a disturbance on Nesham Place, Houghton-le-Spring.
“It was reported that a number of people – believed to have armed themselves with a spade – had tried to force entry to an address. Those involved are believed to be known to each other.
“Emergency services attended and a 54-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
“A full investigation was launched. Two men and one woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1308 080718 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800-555-111."
