A FIRE brigade has issued a warning after one man had a lucky escape when his chip pan caught fire.
Crews attended a property in Seaham yesterday after a neighbour called 999 when they heard a smoke alarm going off inside.
Firefighters discovered a chip pan fire and had arrived in time to stop it developing further.
A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Never leave a pan unattended.
Smoke alarms save lives. Don't delay, test yours today."
