A RESCUE team has taken the unusual step of helping an elderly man up an iconic hill rather than down.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team discovered that one of their supporters, Keith Stubbs, who has raised money for the team and is a friend of a team member, is disabled and regrets that when he was fit enough he had never managed to get up Roseberry Topping.

The group decided it was time to put that right and helped the 71-year-old, who suffers from the muscle wasting condition Lambert-Eaton Myasthenia Syndrome, up the landmark hill.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team said: “Keith was over the moon when he heard the trip up had been organised.

“He was absolutely delighted to finally get there and took the time to catch the views across to the Cleveland Hills and down into the Tees Valley.”
