FROM the catchy lyrics of the Three Lions to the unmistakable chant of Vindaloo, English football fans do not deny they love to support their team with singing.

But when The Football Association announced this year that there would be no official football song for the team; one band decided they would come to the rescue with their own.

Willington man and PR guru, Dean Midas, songwriter Paul Ballington and friend Chris Smith who is also known as Fat Les, joined forces as part of the Paul Ballington Band to produce the song I'd Love It.

Mr Midas said it was after listening to Chris Evans 'rant' on BBC Radio 2 about there not being an official football anthem that he decided the group had to produce their own for the English fans before the World Cup kicks off in Russia on Thursday.

The 46-year-old described the song as "glam rocky" with the perfect amount of fun and a "very tacky" video to make it a hit.

Written by Mr Ballington, lyrics include the likes of "Book a day off work, maybe three to recover; Don't answer the phone even to my own mother" and "Ring Fat Les to bring the Vindaloo".

'Fat Les' also sports some colourful underwear and joins in the street dancing with fans of all ages proudly wearing their England football tops and having a kick-about.

Mr Midas, who has worked with the Sunderland AFC Ladies and Willington AFC said he even tested the song on youngsters at Willington Cricket Club and was delighted with their reaction.

He said: "I thought it would be interesting to see how the kids reacted and they were just wiggling their bums and shouting England and I just thought 'How amazing is this? Imagine this in front of a big 5,000-strong crowd'."

Mr Midas, who has become known for making predictions on talent shows such as the X-Factor with the likes of Leona Lewis, One Direction and Cher Lloyd, said he thought the song could make it into the charts.

"We are looking to just get it out there," he said. "It could end up on TV or even on Chris Evans' show but we are depending on the fortune of the England team."

He added: "I have a feeling we will get to the quarter-finals and might sneak into the semi-finals because we have got a very good young team.

"Maybe not quite good enough to win but I think we will do better than people think."

Mr Midas said he would put his money on Germany to lift the trophy.

The father-of-one added: "If England win and our song was out there, we would go down in history a bit like the Three Lions.

"I'm hoping Chris Evans was looking for a football song because I think this is the type of song he would like.

"I guarantee after a couple of plays you will be singing it."

The tune is now available to download on all outlets such as iTunes, Amazon and listeners can even ask Alexa to play it.
