MORE than 120 golfers came together yesterday to raise funds for two North-East charities.
Bishop Auckland Rotary Club’s annual golf day attracts players from across the region and has raised in excess of £55,000 for good causes over the last ten years.
This year, 29 teams took part in the fundraiser at Bishop Auckland Golf Club.
It is hoped the event will raise £5,000 for Riding for the Disabled, a horse riding therapy centre in Escomb, and Cultivate 4 Life, a local project aimed at nourishing the mental health and wellbeing of young people and adults through gardening.
Event organiser Peter Cook, sports officer at Bishop Auckland Rotary Club, said: “We always try to support charities that help people in our area. Last year, we raised money for the MRI Scanner appeal.
“The golf day is very well supported, with the same teams coming back year after year.
“Everybody always has a good time. It’s such a sociable event and brings people together from all over the North-East. We even have players from Liverpool and Northumberland.”
