DETAILS have been unveiled of packed cultural programme to coincide with The Tall Ships Races’ visit to Sunderland.
This international event, which is the UK’s largest free family event, will take place from Wednesday July 11, culminating in a spectacular parade of sail off the Sunderland coast on Saturday, July 14.
Project director of the Sunderland event, Michelle Daurat, said: “We are planning for 1.5 million visitors and a magnificent fleet of tall ships - so far we have 55 ships.”
Helen Green, programme producer for the event, said: “The cultural programme is going to be massive and sits alongside the international festival .We are going to have over 200 events happen at various zones around the city the port and the riverside.
“It’s going to be really vibrant and buzzing. There’s going to be circus, dance, theatre, music stages with lots of local artists. The highlight will be Cirque Bijoux doing the longest high-wire walk in the UK.”
