DOZENS of talented young dancers are pirouetting their way to stardom as they rehearse for a ballet on a North-East stage.

Thirty-four ballerinas are in training for the professional production of Coppelia, presented by the English Youth Ballet, after passing through auditions attracting more than 150 hopefuls last year.

Rehearsals are currently ongoing in the town's Carmel College ahead of the show on April 13 and April 14.

Maisy Penteney, 13, from Darlington, trains at The Tiffany School of Dance, and said: "The entire experience of dancing with English Youth Ballet is great.

"It gives you a really good impression of what it would be like to be a professional dancer.

" I’m over the moon to have been offered such a good part in Coppelia."

Katie Sheen, 13, who attends the same dance school as Maisy, added: "I’m excited to be dancing one of Swanhilda’s friends. It's going to be really good experience."
