A MAN has died after being hit by a train.
Emergency services were called to the crossing between the Glebe estate in Norton and Roseworth, near Stockton, at about 7.20am on Monday.
A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police said officers and paramedics attended the incident and confirmed the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are now working to identify the man and inform his next of kin,” the spokeswoman said.
“We will also prepare a report for the coroner.”
Services running between Thornaby and Hartlepool were blocked shortly after the incident.
A statement on the Northern Rail website stated that trains running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to an hour.
Disruption was expected to last until around 9.30am.
Trains are now back up and running in the area.
