A SEARCH for a 'distressed individual' led to train services being halted near Northallerton on Sunday night.
Virgin Trains tweeted: "Following reports of a trespasser at #Northallerton, we are waiting for clearance from the police to re-open the line."
Later, they added: "The Police have now found the distressed individual and are clearing the line of all personnel. All lines have now reopened and trains will now be on the move. We apologise for the delay."
National Rail said: "All lines have reopened following a trespasser on the railway at Northallerton.
"Trains are now able to run through Northallerton, however due to the length of time the line was closed trains are running with delays of up to 80 minutes.
"We anticipate disruption will continue until 23:30."
