NORTH-EAST writers and their work will be the focus of an event at an upcoming arts festival.

Darlington for Culture is planning to celebrate the achievements of local writers and give poets, playwrights and novelists the opportunity to develop their craft further.

There will be a day devoted to writers as part of the upcoming Darlington Arts Festival, taking place from Saturday, May 19 until Sunday, June 3.

The organiser of the literary day, Tracey Iceton, is hoping to showcase the talents of the region’s writers and is inviting people to come forward with ideas for the day.

Writers and writing groups who may be interested in staging events such as author readings, talks, performances of published work or classes to help those new to writing develop their practice can email traceyiceton@hotmail.co.uk to express interest.

The event will take place at the Friends Meeting House in Darlington from 10am until 10pm on Saturday, May 26.

Venue hire is being funded by Darlington for Culture in a bid to give writers and groups the opportunity to run events without worrying about cost.

The annual arts festival will be staged at venues across the town and will include a range of activities relating to music, art, literature and film.
