PLANS have been submitted for a traditional village pub to be expanded to accommodate ten hotel rooms

An application for The Saxon Inn, on Saxon Green, in Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, is looking to change the use to mixed use to allow the pub to convert the first floor into hotel bedrooms and also extend the premises for the same purpose.

Details submitted to Durham County Council provide information and plans for the ten proposed bedrooms, which would result in the floor space of the premises more than doubling in size.

However in the application form submitted by the agents DnA, which are based in Darlington, it does state the changes would result in two extra part time staff being taken on - taking the total number of people employed to two full time and four part time.

In addition, three additional car parking spaces would be created, resulting in the currently number rising to 11.

There have been no objections submitted.

This application is a resubmission of previous proposals.

The Saxon Inn serves food and holds a number of themed events, with its most recent taking place for Halloween.

A decision will be made by Durham County Council’s planning officers in due course.
