A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a young woman said she was attacked during a night out.
The 18-year-old is being questioned by police after the alleged attack on a 21-year-old victim.
It is understood the alleged incident took place between some parked cars and a mechanic’s workshop, near the Esso garage, behind The Wicket Gate pub on Front Street in Chester-le-Street.
The woman said she was raped in the early hours of Sunday morning.
On Monday evening the area was taped off as a crime scene so a forensic examination could be carried out.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers have responded to a reported sexual assault in Chester-le-Street.
“The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Sunday, October 29, near the Wicket Gate pub.
