FURTHER protests are expected this week against the imminent fracking at Kirby Misperton in North Yorkshire.

Tomorrow the co-leader of the Green Party, Jonathan Bartley, will be joining those already at the site - where 25 people have been arrested during September.

Tensions have been rising at the site since trucks started arriving a week ago and Green Party energy spokesperson Andrew Cooper said: “Kirby Misperton is in the fracking front line.

"I am full of admiration for all the people who are peacefully protesting to protect local communities.

"The Government is promoting the last dregs of the fossil fuel economy when the threat of climate change is becoming more evident with each passing day.

"We need to be supporting a future of renewable energy sources and more energy efficient buildings to reduce our demand for energy.”

Of the 25 people arrested at the site so far two were release,, two were cautioned and 21 have been charged to court.
