POLICE searching for a missing County Durham man have found a body.
Officers searching for 45-year-old Ian Irwin, missing from his home in Stanley, discovered a body at Leadgate at lunchtime today.
Although no formal identification has taken place, Mr Irwin’s family have been informed of the discovery.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “We’re sorry to report that a body has been found in the search for missing Stanley man Ian Irwin.
“The body was found at around 12.23pm on Monday, September 11 near Leadgate, Consett.
“The family have been informed, however a formal identification has yet to take place.”
The spokesman added: “The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
