MEN carrying out a morning ram raid in Middlesbrough stole tens of thousands of pounds, police have confirmed.

Drivers with dash cams are being urged to look back at their footage to help an investigation into a ram raid at Yorkshire Bank in Eston High Street, near Middlesbrough, on Tuesday.

Cleveland Police received a call at around 9am that a white Ford Kuga had been driven into the front of a building.

A number of unknown men stole cash boxes containing tens of thousands of pounds and drove away.

Detectives investigating the incident have released the following information as part of their appeal.

The White Ford Kuga SUV 4x4 style car used to drive into Yorkshire Bank was thought to be on a false number plates and was seen waiting in the Eston area from around 7am onwards.

It is possible the Kuga could have changed number plates at some point prior to the robbery.

After the incident the offenders left Yorkshire Bank in the Kuga, travelling along Eston High Street to Greystones Roundabout near South Lackenby, before setting the car on fire on Crow Lane in South Lackenby.

The unknown occupants of the Kuga changed into a dark coloured BMW before driving off.

Police have received several calls about the incident yesterday and will be taking further details in the coming days as they follow-up several lines of enquiry.

Detective Inspector Matt Hollingsworth said: “I would urge people to look through their dash cam footage or private CCTV for that particular number plate or a white Ford Kuga in Cleveland or the Eston or Normanby area between 7am and 9:30am.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, we have received several calls and are working through the information and we will get back to people as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can call Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
