A WOMAN is recovering in hospital with serious injuries after the tractor she was travelling in overturned and she was thrown down a gully.

Swaledale Mountain rescue team, North Yorkshire fire and rescue and the police were called to land at Leighton reservoir, near Masham, around 3.15pm yesterday.

A tractor which was pulling a slurry tank trailer had slid down a steep bank and the 23-year-old passenger fell up to 80 feet down a gully.

The patient was stretchered out of the gully by emergency services and taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

The Health and Safety Executive are understood to be investigating the incident.
