A NEWLY qualified plumber has been recognised as one of the ten best JTL apprentices in England and Wales.

Matthew Daniels, from Guisborough, was chosen from nearly 10,000 apprentices at an awards ceremony at the Tower of London run by one of the leading training providers in the building sector.

The 20-year-old said: "I was amazed when I won the North-East Region's Best Apprentice Award earlier this year - it was a real honour. To be put forward for the national title is a great feeling and I can't believe that I am one of ten chosen from thousands up and down the country, competing against so many great guys and girls."

The plumber works in the family business R Daniels Plumbing and Heating, in Guisborough.

Denis Hird, chief executive of JTL, said: "We take great pleasure in seeing our apprentices achieving at the highest levels. However, we recognise that our apprentices' achievements would not be possible without the many local employers in England and Wales that work with us to train and support them."
