A CHARITY has organised an event to help older people sort out insurance for their possessions next week.

Age Concern Derwentside is holding the event on Wednesday at its office, in Betjeman Close, East Stanley.

People who attend have the chance to win £1,000 by entering a free prize draw.

The organisation will also be giving away torch keyrings when people get a free no-obligation quote for Age Concern Home Insurance.

Harriet Gibbon, chief officer at Age Concern Durham County, said: "Many people prefer to speak to someone in person, and older people have to make every penny count.

"The opportunity of having face-to-face, first-hand expert information on issues ranging from home insurance to the available Government benefits will prove invaluable."

Age Concern offers home contents insurance from less than £40 a year and describes it as one of the few policies on the market to offer a very low minimum sum insured.

This allows older people with fewer possessions to pay only for the cover they need.

Tea and cakes will be provided on the day. The session is from 1pm to 3.30pm.
