THREE council accounts department workers hope to raise £3,000 for a charity that makes dreams come true for terminally-ill children.

Christine Kipling, Paul Tuffnell and Peter Rafferty, who work for Durham County Council, will do two sponsored bike rides and a sponsored walk for Make a Wish.

Ms Kipling, who has been keen on keeping fit since she was a teenager and travels to work on her bike, said: "I have been riding for quite a while and Paul has been riding for more than a year, so it was a case of stepping up the training to take on longer rides for a good cause.

"The third member of our team, Peter Rafferty, is a long-distance walker, but I'm sure we can get him onto two wheels for the two rides we have planned."

The first challenge is a 47-mile bike ride on Sunday. It will be followed by a 24-mile walk next month and then the Durham Big Ride on Sunday, September 16, a 25-mile ride on a circular route to and from County Hall.

Ms Kipling said: "All three of us hope the last one will be a breeze, as we should be fit after the first two. It may be that we are all absolutely knackered as well, we will have to see.

"The important part of this whole venture is that we would like to be able to raise the £3,000 required to grant one child's wish through the foundation."
