A TOWN boxing club has rewarded its boxers and behind the scene volunteers.

At its annual presentation night, Spennymoor Boxing Academy thanked volunteer Alan Heron for his tireless fundraising by presenting him with an unsung hero award.

Other awards were: Best rookie Jake Daly; the Royce Carson award for best new prospect, Cory Gallant; most courageous boxer Chad Ellis; best junior Jack Coglan; boxer of the year Garry Dodds.

All 24 squad members received club caps from sponsor ABC Scaffolding, at the event at Whitworth Hall County Park Hotel.

Wayne Baister, of clothes store Bertie, presented tracksuits to Reece Ellis and Stuey McCrone.

Director of coaching Robert Ellis said: "Two hundred people turned out to honour all our boxers. Its been a great season with two national champions, Ben Jackson and Jack Coglan, and also a ground-breaking tour of Australia.

"I'm looking forward to next season, I'm convinced we will pick up more titles and embark on more tours abroad.

"This club is massive in the boxing world and I aim to keep it there."
