WORK to replace Deerness Bridge, between Ushaw Moor and New Brancepeth is due to start next week.
The temporary bridge, which was installed last June, is being dismantled and a permanent replacement built.
There will be a diversion in place next week while the road is closed for preparatory works to divert telecom services.
John Reed, Durham County Council’s head of technical services, said: “Work to remove the existing bridge deck, which is no longer fit for purpose, will soon start and will also include improvements to surfacing, drainage and street lighting.
“Plans are still being finalised but we have worked with utility companies to arrange for existing services to be diverted, enabling the new bridge to be built as quickly as possible and with minimal disruption.
“More information on the full programme will follow.”
