AN Arriva bus, almost full with passengers, was in collision with a car.
The accident happened at about 6pm on Monday as the bus was joining the A167 from Durham Road in Newton Aycliffe.
The collision involved a Honda Civic Type-R, which was travelling along the A167.
A spokesman for Durham Police said that the male Civic driver suffered minor leg injuries. He was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew and was taken to hospital.
No-one else involved is thought to have been hurt.
One witness to the accident said: “It looks like a Honda Civic has gone into the back of an Arriva bus. We saw a man in the recovery position when we passed."
A diversion was quickly set up, but the accident did cause delays.
Firecrews joined police in making the area safe and dealing with the wreckage.
The road re-opened about 8.30pm.
