A TEENAGER remains critically ill in hospital after he was assaulted at a party in a North Yorkshire village.

Police are investigating after the 15-year-old Stokesley School student was attacked in Swainby near Stokesley on Friday, June 30.

Detectives with North Yorkshire Police say they specifically want to hear from anyone who attended the party in the village, or who witnessed an altercation involving a group of young people aged approximately 14 to 15-years-old that evening.

Two people have been arrested and released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

It is understood Stokesley School will be putting in place support for students affected by what has happened.

Stokesley School headteacher Catherine Brooker, sent a message to parents to let them know she would keep them informed.

She wrote: “Many of you will already be aware of a serious assault on one of our students that took place on Friday evening.

“Our first concern is, of course, for him and his family. His friends particularly but also many other students are going to find the coming days extremely difficult. Please do bear in mind that there are all sorts of rumours and misinformation circulating on social media.

“I shall keep you and our students informed of the facts when we are informed by the boy's parents, by the police or by other agencies involved.

“Please do advise your children not to take at face value information other than that derived from reliable, properly informed sources.”

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room.
