YOUNG musicians will be making an unusual contribution to a major brass band festival by retracing 2,000 years of Northern history.

Members of Stanhope Junior Band will be presenting Music Through the Ages as part of the Durham Brass Festival, which ends on Sunday.

They will give a 20-minute concert alongside a film, which traces historic events in the North, starting with the building of the Roman fort at Vindolanda, in Northumberland, and ending with Gateshead's Angel of the North.

"It's very unusual for a brass band to play alongside a film like this," said conductor Steve Robson.

"The children visited the various sites depicted in the film and they are looking forward to making an important contribution to the festival."

The concert will be staged at Stanhope Methodist Chapel, on Saturday, at 7.30pm.

It will be followed by a performance by the full Stanhope Silver Band.

For tickets, priced £4 for adults, £3 for pensioners and £1 for under-18s, contact Steve Robson on 01388-537229 or pay at the door.
