A COUPLE who met at the show and became engaged have returned to the event to celebrate their upcoming wedding.

Emma Thomas, 34, and Nigel Curran, 36, met at the show in 2004.

They returned last year, where Mr Curran tried to propose.

Miss Thomas said: "Nigel and his friend, Will Taylor, who is our best man, were standing near the vintage tractors in 2004 and said hello as I walked towards them.

"We got chatting and spent the rest of the day wandering around the showground together.

"Then Nigel tried to propose at the show last year, but every time he thought it was the right moment, we bumped into someone we knew. He finally asked me at home at 10.30pm."

Miss Thomas works for the North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership, and Mr Curran has an agricultural background. The couple live at Strensall, near York, and will marry on Sunday.

To celebrate the impact the show has had on them, the pair returned this week.

Mr Curran said: "We have both visited the show for many years, but I wonder how many other people can say they met their future spouse at the show."

They visited the vintage tractors section, where the romance began, to be given flowers and champagne by the show committee.
